Youth Outreach – Jeuguitreik – Indawo Yo Lutsha! is a Stellenbosch place of safety facility that provides up to 6 months’ accommodation for twenty children at a time, while they await placement in foster care or a children’s home. Aged 5 to 17 years old, these children are removed from their homes due to neglect or abuse, or the death of their parent or guardian.
The facility is also a safe haven for an additional 40-60 children from the area whose circumstances are deemed high-risk. Their respite at Youth Outreach gives them a daily meal as well as a chance to participate in development programs.
Youth Outreach meets the physical and emotional needs of these children through the care of well-trained staff including a full-time social worker and a facility general manager. In turn, this manager is supported by a board of directors to ensure high professional standards and care with dignity for these displaced children.
Youth Outreach was founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization (005-766-NPO) and a Section 21 company (97/17214/08), funded primarily by the Department of Social Development. The financial management of Youth Outreach is carefully and tightly managed, and audited pro bono by the accounting and auditing firm LDP. Of course, Youth Outreach also fully complies with the rigorous financial guidelines demanded by the Department of Social Development.
